Ko Chang Ho!

05.10.2006 13:55 Thailand - Source: thailand-ho

The bus arrives at 8:40am tomorrow to pick me up from the hotel here. At least that’s what TAT said, but I’m finding it difficult to believe. I mean, it’s not like there’s going to be more than me to pick up, right? Okay sure, they came through for me with the visas, kind of. The other thing is that Lonely Planet said to be wary of special tour buses. They warn that some have this gig where they pick you up, stop along the way, gas you to sleep and steal your stuff. Or the other thing is that they rifle through your things by the time you arrive, grabbing anything valuable… Gotta say I haven’t stopped thinking about this all day.

Oh well, so they get me! It’ll make for an interesting entry on Thailand Ho here at least.

But yeah, theoretically I should arrive Trat by about 1pm, then I hop on the ferry which takes me over to the island of Ko Chang. Having read about it in said Lonely Planet guide, it sounds most excellent. Marc arrived there today and says it’s one of his favourite places in Thailand. He’ll be down in Bang Bao (love the names) which is at the south of the island, much less touristy supposedly, where I’ll probably meet up with him by Monday and find a place there for a few days.

By the way, should anything happen, you should be able to call me at +66040835487. That’s the new cell phone number I have with True Mobile (isn’t that the company that was owned by the now-booted ex-Prime Minister of Thailand?). The bad thing is that I can’t seem to send international text messages. The good thing is that it’s fairly cheap: about 2baht per minute or so I believe. That’s like 5 cents/minute. It’d be nice if someone can call me, then I’ll know if I’ve given out the right number (I’m really not too sure about that). I’m not 100% on the country code, but yes, there’s a zero at the start of the local number part… crazy Thais eh?

Is it Koh Chang or Ko Chang? Why can’t be uniformatize our spellings of Thai words in English? Is uniformatize a word even?

I may be out of touch for a couple days until I figure out the Internet sitch in Ko Chang. Oh yeah, here’s the hotel I’m staying at: Koh Chang Kacha Report and Spa. If that’s the case then hasta pronto.
