Taxi driver in custody over murder

A taxi driver is in police custody after allegations that he was responsible for the death of a mechanic on Tuesday night.

It was alleged the taxi driver stabbed the mechanic with a kitchen knife at Kinoya during an argument.

Police assistant spokesperson Corporal Prashila Narayan said the alleged incident happened around 6.30pm. She said the dead man and the suspect were employees of the same company.

She said the mechanic was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Corporal Narayan said police were waiting for post mortem examination results.

Meanwhile, a third person has been taken in for questioning over the murder of Nadi businessman Kamlesh Nandha last month.

Crime Officer Nadi Detective Inspector Timoci Narova said the man was arrested on Tuesday. No charges have been laid.

Mr Nandha was stabbed in the chest as he tried to open the gates to his home.
