THE police investigator who claims to have been removed when his work led him to query senior government officials over the multi-million dollar agriculture scam, will not be reinstated just yet.

Inspector Nasir Ali, who was the initial chief investigating officer, was taken off the case because he was allegedly being investigated for several offences that have yet to be publicised.

"That is why he can't be reinstated yet,"said Deputy Police Commissioner Moses Driver yesterday.

"We need to complete investigations before making a decision on his reinstatement in the force.

"He is facing quite a number of charges."

IP Ali had told the High Court this week he was removed from heading the investigations because he had complained about interference by senior officers.

He was removed on September 20, 2004.

IP Ali had said Police Commissioner Andrew Hughes had stopped him from entering any police premises and institution.

He told the court there was a major conspiracy involving a staff member of Suncourt Hardware and senior police officers to accuse him of being in cahoots with the company.

The trial's last hearing was on Thursday.

It continues next week before High Court judge Justice Nazhat Shameem.
