Stand up for Fiji, church tells members
Friday August 17, 2007
The Methodist Church in Fiji today called on its congregation gathered in Suva for their annual conference to be firm in their stand against the interim regime.
Church president Laisiasa Ratabacaca during his opening speech at Furnival Park said the Methodist Church did not support the interim government.
"We should be firm in our stand and stand up for the good of the country because you are the ones who can make the difference," he said.
The Methodist Church has been a major critic of the interim regime since the its inception following the December 2006.
It denounced the interim regime and had called on interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and his interim ministers to resign.
Meanwhile more than $500,000 was collected on day one of the conference with the church hoping to reach the $2 million mark.
