SDL to fly Qarase to Suva in helicopter
Friday August 31, 2007

Laisenia Qarase
Fiji's ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has changed his travels plans and will arrive in Suva next week in a helicopter.

SDL national director Peceli Kinivuwai told Fijilive this morning that they will make arrangements to bring Qarase next week.

Qarase was to arrive in Suva today but claimed the military had directed Air Fiji not to fly him over.

He also claimed to have received death threats from the military. This has been denied by the military.

Kinivuwai added that before they make arrangements to get Qarase over to Suva, they will seek clarification from the military on whether Qarase can come to Suva.

Qarase wants to be in Suva in time for his next court date.

He is challenging the legality of the Immunity Decree granting Presidential pardon to the military for its overthrow of the Qarase government on December 5, 2006.

Meanwhile Qarase from Mavana in Lau said he is awaiting word from Kinivuwai on his travel plans.

While answering questions Qarase suddenly asked about the weather in Suva.

"How is the weather in Suva," he said.

He said he was looking forward to coming to Suva soon.
