SDL to ask minister to quit
Thursday August 16, 2007

Fiji’s Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua party will ask party member and newly-appointed interim minister Joketani Cokanasiga to hand in his resignation.

This follows the move by Cokanasiga, a former Home Affairs minister in the Qarase regime, to accept an invitation by interim Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to become the minister for Fisheries and Forests.

SDL national director Peceli Kinivuwai said Cokanasiga was free to do as he pleased and that was his choice.

“We will ask him to resign formally from the party and we wish him well,” Kinivuwai told Fijilive this morning.

On the same note, he said anyone who wished to join the interim regime cannot be a member of the SDL party.

Cokanasiga is expected to be sworn-in next Monday.
