Regime files complaint against Naitasiri chief
Tuesday August 28, 2007

The Fiji Police Force has confirmed receiving an official complaint from the interim regime against Naitasiri high chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata for 'inciteful' comments he made in a paid advertisement in one of the dailies last week.

Takiveikata in the advertisement made an invitation to the interim regime, the military and interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to discuss national reconciliation and to demilitarise Government.

Police spokesman, Ulaiasi Ravula confirmed that a complaint had been lodged but an investigation was yet to begin.

Bainimarama said yesterday that the interim regime would not be hoodwinked by those who concealed their past through grandstanding ideas and proposals.

"It would have been more appropriate for him to respond to the interim Government's proposal (on a National Council for Building a Better Fiji) rather than put out a paid advertisement with ulterior motives," he said.

"The interim Government is all for dialogue, consensus building and reconciliation.

These are virtues which need to be promoted and embraced by people who are sincere and genuine at heart rather than those interested in self promotion and personal gains."

Takiveikata says he is saddened by Bainimarama's decision to reject his offer to take part in a national reconciliation.
