Qarase insignificant: Army
Wednesday August 15, 2007
The Fiji Military Forces say they will not monitor ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase’s movement when he returns to Suva at the end of this month.
Qarase is expected back in Suva to attend his court case against the interim regime.
Military spokesman Major Neumi Leweni told Fijilive the military does not monitor people who are insignificant.
“We don’t monitor people (Qarase) who are insignificant to us,” he said.
Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua party national director Peceli Kinivuwai said Qarase will be staying in Suva for a month.
Kinivuwai said Qarase is not worried about the military because he has nothing to hide.
According to Kinivuwai, Qarase will not hold meetings with the SDL members either.
“He will only be attending to his personal affairs and to sort out family matters,” said Kinivuwai.
The military had earlier warned Qarase not to return to Suva after he and his wife fled to their home island in Mavana immediately after the overthrow of his Government last December.
