PM’s office to decide on salaries
Wednesday September 05, 2007
The Prime Minister’s Office in Fiji has taken on the task of the Higher Salaries Commission and will now decide the remuneration package for senior executives in state-owned companies and commercial statutory authorities.
Permanent Secretary, Parmesh Chand said the shift in policy was decided by Cabinet.
Normally the Higher Salaries Commission decides on the remuneration packages for mostly Chief Executive Officers and senior management positions appointed to government commercial companies and commercial statutory authorities.
The commissions’ task under the constitution is to determine the package and remuneration and inform the Public Service Commission or the organization board itself.
This also means the Interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama now has the final say on salary packages for executives appointed to lead the eleven government commercial companies, including Airports Fiji Limited, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited and the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited.
The list also covers the commercial statutory authorities including the Fiji Electricity Authority, Housing Authority, Fiji Meats Industry Board and the Public Rental Board.
