No party please, Qarase tells fans
Monday August 27, 2007

Ousted Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says he is not expecting any celebration from supporters when he arrives in Suva on Friday.

Speaking from his village in Lau this morning, Qarase told Fijilive that he wants to remain anonymous and request his supporters not to be excited about his arrival.

"I will be arriving on Friday and I don't expect any sort of celebration as I would be there (Suva) to attend my court case and also catch up with my children and grandchildren."

"I know that they (supporters) cannot wait to see me and I would be happy to meet them but this I cannot do because I have been advised to concentrate on my case."

Qarase said that he cannot wait to visit Suva as it has been eight months since he was isolated in his village in Lau by the military following the December 5 coup.

The Fiji Military Forces has recently indicated that Qarase's affairs are insignificant.

Military spokesman Major Neumi Leweni had said that the military does not monitor people who are insignificant.

"We don't monitor people (Qarase) who are insignificant to us," he said.
