Nasir to head review of Police Credit Union

Assistant Police Commissioner Crime Nasir Ali has been appointed to review the Police Credit Union.

Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni confirmed this today saying he has appointed Ali to head the review team.

Speaking from Nadi this afternoon, Ali told Fijilive he was surprised because his appointment was yet to be finalized.

"Lets just leave it at that because I haven't been formally informed about my appointment and I'll comment later when I get an official confirmation," he said.

The appointment came despite strong opposition from former Police Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Jim Koroi recommending that Ali not to be involved in the running of the Police Credit Union.

Lt Col Koroi had suspended SP Ali as manager of the Union earlier to allow for an investigation into alleged abuse of office by some officers.

Commissioner Teleni said Ali was appointed because he could be trusted.
