Church members taking part in the choir competition
The Methodist Church of Fiji has collected a record $2.16 million in the first four days of its annual conference.

And the church expects more levies to flow in as the choir competition heats up leading to the finale on Saturday.

The conference, which began on Friday, last week saw $376,231 collected as part of the opening gifts. $52,606 was collected on the second day while the $76,621 on the third day. The women's choir competition held yesterday contributed $68,272 to the coffers. Tallied with the connexional levies of $1.6million, the church has collected a total of $2,165,007.

Church general secretary, Ame Tugawe said the church had earlier expected to collect around $2 million for the whole week and reports that they have surpassed that in the first four days is very positive.

"Members of the church continue to pour in plus the male choirs will also take part in the competition today and every member is expected to give $10 as levies but we encourage them to give anything," he said.

Tugawe also said that some of the provinces have offered to give food and gifts, which is much appreciated, by the church.
