POLICE are looking for a convicted Australian fraudster over a series of crimes, including his stay in the country and alleged cyber crime over claims that a beachfront development in Yasawa was a gay haven.
Assistant Police Commissioner Kevueli Bulamainaivalu yesterday confirmed they were after the man in relation to a number of alleged criminal offences, ranging from impersonation, false representation, uttering of forged documents and the allegations a beachfront development in Yasawa was being marketed as a gay resort.
Mr Bulamainaivalu said his team was deployed to look for the man in Nadi on Thursday. A police source said the officers were looking for the man but were told he was in Yasawa.
Mr Bulamainaivalu said the Immigration Department was after the man as well.
He said the offences the man allegedly committed were in the same period as when the claims about a gay resort came to light.
Mr Bulamainaivalu said the investigation into that issue was progressing and they found there were possible breaches of laws.
He said from the information gathered, there was no truth to public utterances made by one of the landowners that the beachfront development was a gay haven.
