WORK on Lomaloma Road in Savusavu has been deferred to next year due to budgetary constraints.
Minister for Public Utilities Robin Irwin said the money set aside for works this year was diverted to the payment of the civil service Cost of Living Adjustment.
He said repairing Lomaloma Road was a priority because it was the only road link between Savusavu and Labasa.
Mr Irwin said tests and surveys were being done to establish how the road could be repaired.
He said work would start as soon as money was secured.
Road engineer northern Fernando Amarapala said traffic movement on the partly washed away road was being monitored.
He said the road was down to only one lane and drivers were asked to take necessary precautions when it rained.
Mr Amarapala said construction could be contracted out according to the nature of work and manpower required.
He said a lot of work was needed on the road that got washed away twice early this year.
Lomaloma Road was partly washed away in two landslides in early February.
