Fiji hoteliers hope for the best
Friday September 07, 2007

Fiji Hotel Association President Dixson Seeto hopes the local tourism industry will not suffer as a result of the reintroduction of the Public Emergency Regulation yesterday.

Seeto said that Fiji's largest tourism markets, Australia and New Zealand, have not changed their travel advisories for Fiji. And he is hopeful that does not affect the number of visitor arrivals to Fiji.

"The only amendment to the travel advisory is the wording, the level remains at 2 for Australia. That goes for New Zealand as well," he said.

Interim Minister for Tourism Bernadette Rounds-Ganilau is also optimistic Fiji's main revenue earner will not be affected.

"I think it won't happen, people are quite used to seeing the beautiful Fiji," she said.

Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has said that people should continue with their lives as the reactivated law is only meant to contain ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase and his political allies.
