Expect flash floods: Weatherman

People living in low-lying areas, especially those in areas where drainage is poor should expect flash floods.

Director of Meteorology Rajendra Prasad said those in flood-prone areas should remain alert and exercise caution during this prolonged period of wet weather.

The wet conditions contributed to the trough of low pressure that was slow moving with an associated band of cloud and rain still affecting the group.

"We do not expect any real heavy rain today (yesterday) but this could come from tomorrow (today) if the trough of low pressure does start to move across the country,"he said.

Mr Prasad said there was some indication that the whole system might start to move eastwards in the next 24 hours.

"And clear the group by late Friday,"he said.

Mr Prasad said another rain band might approach the country from the northwest on Sunday.

"All this could change as the current pattern was not easily predictable,"he said.

'All in all, it does not look like Fiji will be experiencing any prolonged spell of fine weather."The country has been experiencing rainy weather and some parts of the country especially in the central division had freak floods last week.
