DNA tests to take time: Police
Wednesday September 05, 2007

The Fiji police forensic unit say it will be difficult to identify the DNA tests taken fron the two bodies found at Pacific Harbour last week.

Assistant Police Commissioner Crime Nasir Ali said they are working around the clock to positively link the DNA samples to the missing Kumar family of Navua.

“Due to a lot of factors it will be very difficult to identify if the DNA samples belong to the Kumars because the body has been badly decomposed and the sampling could take a very long time.”

He said since the clothes on the two bodies have been identified as that of the Kumars, DNA samples will only prove that the bodies belonged to the missing family.

“At the moment a police team is combing the Deuba beach looking for clues but bad weather has hindered our investigations.”

“However investigations will go on and we have made very good progress,” Ali said.

“We have not ruled out foul play as yet but very little evidence has emerged from our seach after parts of a car were found last week.”

He said an extensive search will be carried out once the weather clears.
