Accountant cops jail term
Friday August 17, 2007

An accountant working with Fiji’s Ministry of Education was yesterday jailed for nine months after pleading guilty to forgery.

26-year-old Tukana Yabaki was accused of obtaining more than $6,000 in cheques from the ministry between the 4th and 19th of April this year.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Harish Chand told Magistrate Ajmal Khan that the accused had spent the money for his personal use.

Chand also told the court that the incident was discovered by a fellow worker following an audit a month later.

Yabaki mitigated by saying that he was married and had two children to support.
