Balinese temple ceremony in Denpasar Bali

23.08.2007 11:40 Bali - Source: baliblog

templeBalinese temples really come alive during ceremonies. Even magnificent temples such as Pura Ulun Danu Batur or Pura Besakih look somewhat drab without the decorations and Balinese people in ceremonial costume. This afternoon I stopped to admire an odalan ceremony in progress in the Denpasar Selatan (south) area close to Kuta. The late afternoon sun illuminate the temple which was decked out in sacred white and yellow.

This particular temple was located on Jl. Griya Anyar, close to the roundabout at Simpang Siur, on the bank of the Tukad Badung river. The sound of the gamelan and smell of sate babi were right there and local people were busy coming and going. This temple looked fairly impressive but is not a major tourist attraction.
