The lovingly preserved narrow-gauge steam railroad was built in 1880. It crosses the border between the states eleven times on each run, twisting and turning over high trestles and through tunnels in the southern Rocky Mountains.
The railway is both a national historic site and a national civil engineering landmark, an honor bestowed by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
